תפקידה של ישראל בעולם, והסברה

חבר אמריקאי ביקש ממני להגיד מה דעתי, בקצרה, על תפקידה של ישראל בקהילה הבינלאומית.

זה מה שעניתי לו:

Basically in these days of the right for peoples to determine themselves in the form of nation states, Israel is the fulfilling of this right for the jewish people. History teaches us that the Jewish people needs a state of it's own. So in the historic view it solved "the Jewish question". Sadly, the way Zionism did it in the last 63 years and the half century that before the creation of Israel in May 1948 was sometimes brutal and inhumane and made israel's role in international relations "problematic", to say the least. Some would say that it couldn't be done any other way, and they might be right. Israel didn't take into consideration what would the world say in many cases (building of atomic bombs, killings of civilians, and many others), and it made it's role "troublemaking". When we will be open to understand the pain that we caused others, and compensate them, israel's role could change from troublemaking to, hopefully, bridge-building.
